APA SAMHSA Future Leaders in Psychiatry Program
by American Psychiatric Association
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) is committed to fostering diversity in the psychiatric workforce, and is working to engage people from different cultures, backgrounds and perspectives as future leaders in psychiatry. The APA's Future Leaders in Psychiatry Program (FLIPP) is designed to champion diversity, build an inclusive psychiatric workforce, broaden undergraduate student’s understanding of psychiatry and their career options, and prepare future leaders to successfully enter the field of psychiatry.
In FLIPP, undergraduates participate in the program for one year. During this year, they are exposed to different career options in psychiatry along with professional development through a monthly live webinar to increase their chances of matriculating to medical school. They receive mentorship from current medical students, a funded Kaplan MCAT training course, an AAMC MSAR subscription to research medical schools, and have the option to attend The Future Leaders Academy. An in-person opportunity to tour university and medical school campuses and hear from industry leaders on their career journey and their current research.
